Topic 4: Manage tiredness

Take breaks and pace yourself

Helen’s advice: My biggest problem was, low concentration and the fatigue. I could only concentrate for a period of time and I needed a break or I would get a fuzzy head. I would have to get into a quiet place because otherwise I would get really distracted by noises. I was really careful with what I filled my week with, accepting that a busy day, a busy night will impact on how much I’m able to do on the following days.

Listen, rather than read

Abdul’s advice: When I am tired I don’t read, but I use a programme to listen to what is written. Listening is easier for me than reading.

Avoid spending unnecessary energy

Elsie’s advice: Keeping active and giving myself that extra push to do things is the only way I can handle it really. I also make sure I’ve got everything that I need together. All my toiletries I put in a basket, so that I know exactly where everything is. I can’t afford to go around looking for things, ’cause that takes unnecessary energy.
